Setting Up Bulk Messaging
Allow your users to send bulk messages to people is one of the big reasons people pick SV Messaging for their institution. Out of the box, you can easily send 1:1 messages with little work, but bulk messaging needs a little more setup to make it available.
Before a program is available to bulk messaging, you'll need to:
- Setup field mapping
- Enable data sync
- Enable messaging
Setting up field mapping
Within SV Messaging, go to Programs and click the program you want to setup field mapping for. The first tab in your Program configuration is Fields. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Edit to get started.
First, you'll want to specify the Salesforce Object - that is, what object in Salesforce represents the person we'll be syncing with. Once you've selected the object, you'll need to let us know which field is the mobile phone field. You may also set the field direction for the mobile phone field. We typically recommend From Salesforce to Signal Vine, but bi-directional is also available if you choose.
Once that required information is set, the rest of the fields are optional. You can set as many or as few as you want - but only fields that are mapped are available as merge fields in your bulk messages.
When you have your fields mapped the way you want, click Save at the bottom.
Enabling data sync and messaging
Once the fields are mapped, go back to the Programs tab and the Data Sync toggle should now be able to be flipped to ON. If it can't be moved then the field mapping is incomplete. Go back and double-check your work.
Right along with the Data Sync toggle is the Messaging toggle. You'll need the ON as well.
Bulk messaging is ready - go check it out
As long as the field mapping is set, the data sync is on and the messaging is on, bulk messaging is good to go. Go to the Inbox and you should see the New Message button. Any program you've configured should be available to message from.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did I have to do all of that?
The short version is that all bulk messages require that each field used as a merge field is shared with Signal Vine. That's what the field mapping does - it shares those fields with us so we can use them on your behalf.
I did all that and the New Message button still doesn't show up
Go to SV Messaging - Settings - Message Settings and make sure the "Do not allow users to send bulk messages" option is disabled.
